Dressed for winter wear in France, 1927. Note the details-- like the button on the scarf and the belted coat. Classic.

Roaring Twenties Hat and the Golden Wedding Anniversary
I received an order for this 1920s Great Gatsby style hat this past week. The note attached read as follows--
For our 50th anniversary we are giving a 1920s Jazz lawn party at a local mansion. It would be perfect with my silk opera length 1920s gloves and my husband's silk top hat and walking stick!
I hope the hat matches her dress perfectly. Oh, how I would love to go to that party!!!

Vintage Cowgirl Hat
The dark brown suede cowgirl hat was sold from The Vintage Hat Shop to a gal in remote Alaska.
She purchased the hat to wear "Wrangling horses and working outside wearing work pants." Stylish and classy goes everywhere! Love it..

1940s Sister Hats, a Gage and a New York Creation!
Every once in awhile some hats will come to The Vintage Hat Shop and you just know there is a story behind their eye catching appearance. Both of these 1940s black felt hats were acquired from the same person. Don't they just tell you something about the kind of gal that would own 1940s hats? The black "loopy" hat is a Gage and the tilt is a New York Creation. These weren't her mother's hats, she had an elegantly dramatic look all her own! Sophisticated and alluring-- you bet!
I would say this young woman loved 1940s hats and was very classy and stylish, wouldn't you? Oh, how I wish I'd known her!
Both styles coming to The Vintage Hat Shop soon.

1930s tilt hat with one feather
Are you a fan of 1930s hats? Take a look at the feather tilt that was on the cover of McCalls Magazine in 1938. How dramatic! It would take confidence and style to wear such a fashion statement. I certainly would have to try on this hat and do a bit of mirror modeling before listing it in The Vintage Hat Shop!

Loretta Young, Lilly Dache' and The Vintage Hat Shop
Recently hats from The Vintage Hat Shop were purchased by the Loretta Young family to be used at the 100th Anniversary Exhibit to be held at the Hollywood Museum! 'Twas a big deal for this Loretta Young fan!
It seems that Loretta Young was such a big fan of Lilly Dache' that it is rumored that she purchased every hat in the shop when Lilly announced her retirement. Since Lilly was a favorite of Loretta's, one of the hats purchased for display was a Dachette.
An article about Lilly Dache', also furnished by The Vintage Hat Shop, will be on display, too.
The other hat chosen for display was a 1960s breton by Bonta. Another classic 1960s style hat.
The display will be on exhibit from December through April at the Hollywood Museum in LA.
I have been encouraged to attend the exhibit. Hmmmm, there may be a California trip in the future for The Vintage Hat Shop!
I'll keep you posted.

Crochet your own 1940s tilt hat. Really??!
Tilt hats are among my favorite hats but I had not considered that many of them were hand crocheted in the 1940s. Not only did women crochet hats but purses to match.
Take a look at the styles offered in the Cordet Hat and Bag pattern book. No date is listed but the styles look to be from the mid 40s.

I enjoy looking through old magazines and I always get a kick out of finding pictures that match my hats!
The Woman's Home Companion June, 1941 issue had this ad for Greyhound Bus.
I had just purchased this 1930s halo clamshell hat. What are the chances?!
The hat is now listed in The Vintage Hat Shop. I will be glad to send along the 1941 advertisement to the person that purchases the hat.

Dobbs Hatbox Miniature
In the 1930s, and 1940s men were very particular about having just the right fedora hat. So if you wanted to give your guy a hat for Christmas you gave him a small gift hatbox which enabled him to go to the store and choose a hat to his liking in the proper size.
I had never seen one of the mini hatbox/giftboxes before this past weekend. I was so pleased to find the Dobbs box in a nearby antique shop. You can even see the "For" blank on the cover. The box is 3 in. high and 4 1/2 in. across. Currently available in The Vintage Hat Shop.
And look at the proud men wearing their favorite fedora!

Lilly Dache' Dachettes'
Who among hat lovers isn't a Lilly Dache' fan? This pink fascinator from the 50s is such a classic example.

With all the hats that have passed through The Vintage Hat Shop I have never owned an original Lilly Dache'!
But I do currently have three Dachettes' hats in the shop right now. These hats are a later version using the Lilly Dache' name.
