Every once in awhile some hats will come to The Vintage Hat Shop and you just know there is a story behind their eye catching appearance. Both of these 1940s black felt hats were acquired from the same person. Don't they just tell you something about the kind of gal that would own 1940s hats? The black "loopy" hat is a Gage and the tilt is a New York Creation. These weren't her mother's hats, she had an elegantly dramatic look all her own! Sophisticated and alluring-- you bet!
I would say this young woman loved 1940s hats and was very classy and stylish, wouldn't you? Oh, how I wish I'd known her!
Both styles coming to The Vintage Hat Shop soon.

1930s tilt hat with one feather
Are you a fan of 1930s hats? Take a look at the feather tilt that was on the cover of McCalls Magazine in 1938. How dramatic! It would take confidence and style to wear such a fashion statement. I certainly would have to try on this hat and do a bit of mirror modeling before listing it in The Vintage Hat Shop!

Lilly Dache' Dachettes'
Who among hat lovers isn't a Lilly Dache' fan? This pink fascinator from the 50s is such a classic example.

With all the hats that have passed through The Vintage Hat Shop I have never owned an original Lilly Dache'!
But I do currently have three Dachettes' hats in the shop right now. These hats are a later version using the Lilly Dache' name.

Vintage 1950s aqua cocktail hat
I love the aqua/ turquoise color of the 1950s tilted cocktail hat. But take a look at the purse. Is that needlework? Looks like the type of work that my Grandmother did---- and tried to teach me, I might add.
Very classic style from The Ladies Home Journal, February 1955.

Vintage Lavender Hats
When I look out on to our fields, I can see that the blooms on the lilacs won't be with us much longer. Time to enjoy them while we can!

The Vintage Hat Shop has many lavender hats that would be perfect this time of year!

Vintage Hats in the Movies!
Yesterday two favorite 1940s hats from The Vintage Hat Shop were purchased to be used in an upcoming movie! Wow!
A 1940s tilt toque hat by Carson Pirie.
Another 1940s forward tilt with backband.
The story -- The Jackie Robinson Story--"24". is set in the 1940s, of course. You can be sure that my friends and I will be looking forward to going to see this movie-- I'll be scanning the crowd looking for these hats!

Five Hundred Vintage Hats!!
A Big Day here at The Vintage Hat Shop-- the 500th hat was shipped to Arizona this morning!
The hat sold was a vintage slouch hat, made in England with a downy feather off to the side. Very classy and just a bit dramatic.
First the hat was wrapped carefully in tissue paper--
Tied up with a simple pink bow--
And it is on its way!
Now on to hat #501!!

Forward Front Tilt Hat, The Pompadour
When someone labeled this hat a forward front tilt, they were certainly accurate. Look at the way it sits on the forehead. And just think of the 1940s pompadour hairstyles so popular during WW2. Can't you just see this little tilt sitting atop a fancy updo? The thin black elastic band hides under the hair and keeps the hat in place. Classy, very classy.
