Replacing feathers on a vintage hat

I recently purchased a 1930s black felt forward tilt hat for The Vintage Hat Shop--  I loved the hat, in perfect condition, except for the feathers--

So I went to my favorite craft store and purchased new feathers and replaced them myself!

Of course when I listed the hat I mentioned that the feathers had been replaced, but with feathers similar to the original, would you agree?

Vintage Hats in the Movies!

Yesterday two favorite 1940s hats from The Vintage Hat Shop were purchased to be used in an upcoming movie! Wow!

Another 1940s forward tilt with backband.

The story -- The Jackie Robinson Story--"24".   is set in the 1940s, of course. You can be sure that my friends and  I will be looking forward to going to see this movie-- I'll be scanning the crowd looking for these hats!

Forward Front Tilt Hat, The Pompadour

When someone labeled this hat a forward front tilt, they were certainly accurate. Look at the way it sits on the forehead. And just think of the 1940s pompadour hairstyles so popular during WW2. Can't you just see this little tilt sitting atop a fancy updo?  The thin black elastic band hides under the hair and keeps the hat in place. Classy, very classy.

Black Front Tilt With Privacy Veil

I purchased this black front tilt because I buy one whenever I see one! So rare these days. Loved the bow in front and the back strap.
I saw the veil of course but didn't take too much notice until I got it home. The netting is a "privacy veil"! It comes down past the chin to the chest. And it is in perfect  condition, too. Now that I think about it I have never owned a hat with such a veil. It will be in the shop soon.

Swirls in a Front Forward Tilt

Now that I buy and sell hats I notice all variety of details. Take a look at the swirl pattern in the crown of this forward front tilt. I have not seen this unusual pattern before. The interior cap is fully lined with a tag that says "Lazarus".   I say, "First class all the way!"
