Three linen suits each worn with a 1940s tilt hat. The lovely tailored suits are each a McCall's pattern. The stylish and fashionable vintage hats are similar to the hats available in The Vintage Hat Shop.

Art Deco hat, 1931 Pictorial Review Advertisement

I know the gal in the Pictorial Review is worried about her underarm odor and using the proper perspiration preparation as referenced in the advertisement for Ordorono. But I am just loving her hat! So classy art deco.

Vintage calote, calotte or Juliet caps. Vintage hats 1920s-1940s.

Calotte hats are rounded and fit close to the head. The capulet hats are also known as a Juliet cap, as in Romeo and Juliet-- Juliet's last name was Capulet. The skullcaps were popular in the 1920s through the 1940s and were made with a variety of materials and styles. Sometimes the hat had a stem on center top, a veil or a snood.

Take a look at the at the calot in the vintage advertisement  for Chesterfield cigarettes --

Some calottes are listed in The Vintage Hat Shop-

1940s Sister Hats, a Gage and a New York Creation!

Every once in awhile some hats will come to The Vintage Hat Shop and you just know there is a story behind their eye catching appearance. Both of these 1940s black felt hats were acquired from the same person. Don't they just tell you something about the kind of gal that would own 1940s hats?  The black "loopy" hat is a Gage and the tilt is a New York Creation. These weren't her mother's hats, she had an elegantly dramatic look all her own! Sophisticated and alluring-- you bet!

I would say this young woman loved 1940s hats and  was very classy and stylish, wouldn't you? Oh, how I wish I'd known her!
Both styles coming to The Vintage Hat Shop soon.

1930s tilt hat with one feather

Are you a fan of 1930s hats? Take a look at the feather tilt that was on the cover of McCalls Magazine in 1938. How dramatic! It would take confidence and style to wear such a fashion statement.  I certainly would have to try on this hat and do a bit of mirror modeling before listing it in The Vintage Hat Shop!

1940s tilt hat, from sad to Oo-La-La!

I recently found a 1940s tilt fuchsia hat just tossed in a corner at an antique shop. I took a close look to see if it would be a candidate for placement in  The Vintage Hat Shop.

I could see that it had good "bones" and a unique structure. Actually, I knew with a bit of work it could be a treasure!
I put it on my mannequin, Jo, for a good look--

I never like to remove vintage veils but sometimes they just aren't repairable or attractive. Removal is the only option. So I got out my trusty seam-ripper and with the utmost care removed the velvet dotted veil.

The result is a striking tilt--a 1940s classic hat. The matching hat pin hardly was visible before, now it is the centerpiece of the forward toy tilt.

Placed on the head at a jaunty tilt, the vintage hat exudes drama, elegance and a touch of class!

Now I would say that is a hat with a load of  Oo-La-La!  Wouldn't you?!

Crochet your own 1940s tilt hat. Really??!

Tilt hats are among my favorite hats but I had not considered that many of them were hand crocheted in the 1940s. Not only did women crochet hats but purses to match.
Take a look at the styles offered in the Cordet Hat and Bag pattern book. No date is listed but the styles look to be from the mid 40s.

1933 Dodge and a tilt slouch hat.

Everything about this photo is classic. The 1933 Dodge, the setting, the gal driving. But my favorite item is the tilt slouch hat worn but the woman in red on the far right. Her entire outfit is so stylish!

Loretta Young Fashions, 1952.

What style you have, Loretta Young!!

Quote from fashion editor Elizabeth Maderia of the Woman's Home Companion---

Planning a wardrobe with Loretta Young is a fashion editor's dream-- here's a star who knows what she likes and how to wear it, plans clothes expertly for a life that includes small sons swarming in from school, a teen-age daughter, a handsome and successful husband, her own demanding career and work for charity besides.  You see her here in and about her lovely house; you'll next see her in Columbia's production of Paula.

Vintage Coke Pants, 1970s

If only I had the foresight to order Coke Pants for everyone in my family for only $2.98 back in the 70s. We could have had matching pants.   It makes me laugh just sitting here at the computer thinking about it.  Wouldn't have been pretty.

Dobbs Hatbox Miniature

In the 1930s, and 1940s men were very particular about having just the right fedora hat.  So if you  wanted to give your guy a hat for Christmas you gave him a small gift hatbox which enabled him to go to the store and choose a hat to his liking in the proper size.
I had never seen one of the mini hatbox/giftboxes  before this past weekend. I was so pleased to find the Dobbs box in a nearby antique shop. You can even see the "For" blank on the cover. The box is 3 in. high and 4 1/2 in. across.           Currently available in The Vintage Hat Shop.
