Did you read the vintage themed article about Helen Uffner in the Sunday edition of the New York Times?
Her Sundays are spent visiting shops and estate sales looking for unique vintage clothing and other interesting items. Many of her clothing finds have been used in movies, commercials and stage productions. Ahh, the thrill of the hunt. Helen Uffner, vintage clothing expert, is my kind of treasure hunter!

I also went to an estate sale this weekend and found a few items that I couldn't pass by.

Vintage calote, calotte or Juliet caps. Vintage hats 1920s-1940s.

Calotte hats are rounded and fit close to the head. The capulet hats are also known as a Juliet cap, as in Romeo and Juliet-- Juliet's last name was Capulet. The skullcaps were popular in the 1920s through the 1940s and were made with a variety of materials and styles. Sometimes the hat had a stem on center top, a veil or a snood.

Betty Co-Ed vintage hats-- 1930s, 1940s

Beginning in the 1930s smart and sporty hats were introduced called "Betty Co-Eds". These striking and stylish hats were especially appealing to the new era of college women. Note the label-- "Hats of Youth".

Vintage 1950s black hat, Irene Dunn

As I was searching for photos to match some of the 1950s  hats currently listed in The Vintage Hat Shop, I came across this photo of Irene Dunn.  A perfect example of the 50s woman of fashion!

The mushroom toque is a similar style but without the veil. Both have clean classic lines in the symmetrical 1950s style.

Vintage Hats in the movie "Genius" worn by Nicole Kidman and Laura Linney

If you get a chance to see the movie "Genius" starring Jude Law, Nicole Kidman and Laura Linney be on the lookout for these hats. They were purchased from The Vintage Hat Shop in August 2014 by the costume designer.

Vintage antique wedding crowns

Recently I went to two large antique shows. I found two lots of antique vintage wedding crowns! I rarely find these treasures and to find all these in one weekend-- you can believe that I was smiling ear to ear! I can only imagine the dresses that must have been a part of the bride's ensemble. Someone treasured each crown and now I hope another bride will find each crown special, too. 
Some are already in the shop, others will be listed soon.

I have been meaning to let you know that the hat was a great success! I had an event here in Edinburgh that is very formal in a cathedral with all the senior members of our royal family (the Queen, Prince Philip, Prince William etc) taking part in the service. The hat got a lot of compliments! Personally, I don't think you can beat vintage - they really knew what they were doing. Thank you and I will definitely use you again in the future- I just wish there was more call for such hats in every day life!!

1940s McCalls fashions-- with hats, of course!

Take a peek at the 1939-40s fashions from McCall patterns.  Note the fitted midriff on each fashionable frock. Each dress has a unique and "perky" matching hat-- of course!
