Vintage Hat Fool and a Summer's Day

Can you think of anyone foolish enough to leave an air conditioned house on a 95 degree day to drive an hour to look at vintage hats?! Yes, that would have been me. I could have been at the beach like this young gal.

Atlantic City Beach

But I had such a great time! I found hats from the 1920s, 30s, 40s and 50s! I had to try on every hat of course. So by the time I left The Flower Bin Antique Shop I was a bit disheveled,  I had hat hair, I was dripping wet, and I was smiling ear to ear! No complaints here.

Hats are all inventoried and now it is time for a bit of cleaning and repair. Then on to photographing and listing. Soon, very soon.

Take  a look at other women enjoying their summer day!

Vintage straw hats for a hot summer day

It is unusually hot here on the shores of Lake Michigan. And a hat is a necessity. Given the choice between hat hair and heat stroke, the bad hair day wins hands down. Ahhh, but one might as well wear a classy vintage hat to the beach or a trip to town. Take a look at some summer hats currently being offered by The Vintage Hat Shop.

Ending summer the vintage way.

A perfect ending to a vintage summer--- a wide brimmed Kutz straw hat with a 1968 Good Housekeeping magazine, a sunny day at the beach and you are all set!

Take a look at the articles offered in 1968-
-Joyce Brothers, "Fighting the Fears that Riots Breed"

-Great Informal Outdoor Dinners

-Bob Hope, John Lindsay, Hugh Downs and Others, Describe "The Day I Was Proudest of My Wife"'

-Humphrey & McCarthy:Campaign Ordeals Faced By the Families

-What To Know About Beauty Parlors

I would say that this that would be a fascinating historical read.  Maybe a few smiles-especially when you see the young fashion classics and some of the advertisements!

If you would like this magazine, let me know. I will be sending it to one of my readers.

Genuine Imported Panama Hat

One of my favorite summer time hats is the finely woven Panama hat. I love the open weave around the crown and the nose length veil. But the tag says "Imported Genuine Panama" . Imported from where?  Panama?
Or another country? If you have any information I would be interested. Just curious.
