I love it when I find an inspiration photo that matches one of the hats currently listed in The Vintage Hat Shop.

Take a look at the cover photo of the Motion Picture July 1933. Featuring Mae West!

Vintage 1920s cloche hat

Portrait of mother and child, possibly of the surname 'Gordon'

Cloche: close fitting hat, bell shape, popular in the 1920s

Let's take a look at some of the cloches that were in style in the 20s. You're going to love them!
(I am just learning how to import photos. It is a practice in patience. Please bear with me!)

Vintage Bridal Gown Display

On Thursday we took a road trip up to the Benzie County Historical Museum located in Benzonia, Michigan.

The members of the Benzie Area Historical Society  featured a vintage bridal show highlighting brides of local families.  All of the dresses have some connection to community.

Dresses dated from the 1870s to 2010.  Some of the dresses were worn by many members of the same family. One dress was worn by five brides. And it was still in perfect condition!!  Wedding Day stories were shared and tea was served during the presentation.

A thank you is due to the museum volunteers and the families that shared the dresses that were worn on the special day.  A memorable and thought provoking display done with class and style.

Vintage Hats on to Pikes Peak

Take a look at the women riding the burros on their way to Pikes Peak. The photo, courtesy of Manistee County Museum, was taken in 1909.

Take a look at the wide brimmed hats!  What a ride that must have been!

Vintage hats --1940s tilt-- the backband

One of the most popular hat styles in the 1940s was the forward tilt. Usually the attention is drawn to the front of the toy tilt hats--adorned with ribbons, flowers or feathers. But there were a variety of materials and styles used in the back to keep the vintage tilts forward on the head.
Take a look at a few of the examples--

The forward front tilt of the 1940s and WW2 made for a perky and classy style!

Mystery at The Vintage Hat Shop

Yes, it's true. I have a mystery that I can't quite figure out. On April 1 I sold this classy velvet platter beret hat to a customer in Germany. Because of local customs officials, she asked that I place the invoice on the outside of the package. I was glad to do that. Since I had not heard from the customer, I assumed that the package had arrived safely and that she was pleased. Imagine my surprise when the box was delivered to my doorstep on Saturday-- 2 1/2 months after being sent to Germany!! It was so strange to open a package that I personally had wrapped. The bow was in perfect condition as was the wrapping. So now I am wondering--- -Why didn't I hear from her earlier? -Why didn't she answer the email of inquiry that I sent on Saturday? -Should I refund her payment or wait to hear from her? -Is she all right? Did something happen to her? And that's the mystery at The Vintage Hat Shop!!

Dad's country fedora

And here's Dad in 1953. I love that even though he was a farmer he wore a "country fedora". Baseball caps weren't widely popular on the farm at that time. Happy Father's Day, Dad. Thank you.
